Esha is a Scorpion celebrates her birthday on 2nd November. Born in 1981 to actors Dharamendra and Hema Malini, she has a younger sister Ahana. Starring Bobby Deol and Sunny Deol is her half brother. She is a Punjabi Sikh and part Hindu-Tamil.
She did her training at Jamnabhai Narsee School. She has a Masters Degree in Media Arts and Computer Science from Oxford University. She is an Odissi dancer, learning the art of her mother and was a part of the state-level football

From 2002 to 2004 Vinay Shukla's Koi Dil More Pooch (2002) was her first film and her performance won her Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. She had two other releases in 2002, after after Tum Jaano Hum with Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan and a romcom Kya Dil Ne Kahan with Tusshar Kapoor.
In 2003 she was part of a slasher flick Kuch to Hai was given to her childhood friend Zayed Khan in Chura Liya Hai Tumne. Her first film was Mani Rathnam's Tamil Aayutha Ezhuthu (2004), which was later restored in Hindi as Yuva and Esha was the only actress who was cast in both. Dhoom (2004) was a huge hit, and she played Sheena, a poor girl who becomes good.
